Pachira aquatica
Also known as a water chestnut tree, this plant is native to Central and South America and naturally grows in tropical wetlands. The name "money tree" originates from a story about a poor man who prayed for money, and soon after found the Pachira aquatica; he took it home and began selling the seeds of the tree, and found his prayers for more money answered.
Many folks say that if you care for your money tree properly (and place bills and coins in between its braided trunks!), the money tree will bring you good financial fortune. Some people even say that it works best when received or given as a gift, so this makes for the perfect Housewarming plantita!
Place this tree in bright indirect light for optimal growth, and water once every 1-2 weeks, when the soil is about 75% dry. This plant is also safe for pets!
Because of the delicate leaves and tall shape of this tree, we can only offer in-store pickup for this plant.

If you’re worried about getting your water schedule right, we recommend using a Moisture Meter! These handy tools will help you gauge if your plant needs water or not, without the mess of sticking your hands in the soil to check.
If a plant is out of stock, we apologize – we’re very grateful for our community’s support, and can sell out of certain plants quite quickly! We get new plants about once a week and try to source all our community’s favs as fast as we can.
If you’re local to the LA area, we recommend coming into the shop when you can, especially if you’re looking for a new plant! We have much more plants in our store than we display online, as well as a full backyard greenhouse that houses our discounted rehab plants that need a bit more TLC from a new home.
NOTE: Decorative pot not included.
